About The Position

Itron is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Accounting Intern to join their team. This internship offers hands-on experience in corporate accounting, financial operations, and process improvement initiatives. The intern will gain exposure to multiple accounting and finance functions through structured training opportunities, mentorship, and participation in real-world accounting projects. The role is designed to provide broad insight into professional accounting careers while supporting key business activities and continuous improvement efforts. The intern will contribute to month-end close activities, assist with reconciliations and data validation, and support initiatives focused on automating existing accounting processes. This role provides valuable exposure to corporate accounting operations and supports talent development for future recruitment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and completion of at least two years of college coursework
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional communication and problem-solving skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday)
  • Familiarity with automation tools and AI use (e.g., Alteryx, MS Copilot)
  • Prior internship, office, customer service, leadership, or other professional work experience.
  • Coursework in financial reporting, auditing, accounting fundamentals and data analytics
  • Interest in pursuing CPA certification or long-term accounting career goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with month-end close activities including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Perform data validation and support documentation for audit and compliance
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, including automation of routine accounting tasks
  • Collaborate with accounting team members to identify efficiency opportunities
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests
  • Document procedures and contribute to knowledge-sharing efforts
  • Develop an understanding of multiple accounting functions with a focus on manufacturing processes
