About The Position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world’s largest and most effective private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization, is seeking an Accounting Intern to support all aspects of accounting operations of the organization and its affiliates. The Accounting Intern builds a foundational understanding of accounting functions. This role focuses on translating classroom knowledge into practical application, learning the mechanics of daily accounting workflows, and understanding how core financial processes fit together. The intern will work under the direct guidance of senior team members to develop data accuracy, professional communication, and consistency.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as a student pursuing a Bachelor of Accounting degree.
  • Junior or Senior standing preferred, but all active students with core accounting coursework completed and maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher will be considered.
  • No prior accounting experience required.
  • Strong conceptual grasp of basic accounting principles and introductory GAAP from completed coursework.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel functions (e.g., formulas, data sorting).
  • Eagerness and aptitude to learn professional ERP and corporate accounting software systems.
  • High level of attentiveness to data entry accuracy.
  • Comfort asking clarifying questions and implementing feedback from mentors.
  • Strong time-management skills to successfully balance internship tasks with ongoing academic commitments.
  • Ability to interact politely and professionally with internal teams.
  • Reliable follow-through on assigned project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the execution of routine accounts receivable and accounts payable transactions under professional supervision.
  • Learn to prepare and maintain well-supported balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Apply customer payments accurately to understand cash flow entry points.
  • Draft and upload journal entries in accordance with provided standard operating procedures.
  • Support month-end close activities to learn how financial results are compiled and delivered.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical accounting documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and demonstrate structured written and verbal communication skills.
  • Identify data discrepancies during routine tasks and escalate them to the mentor for resolution.
