About The Position

Outlast is seeking an Accounting & Controls Manager to manage the company's accounting functions end-to-end, with a trajectory to become the Controller. This role involves owning the monthly close process, maintaining daily transactional accuracy, managing inventory accounting for physical metal, overseeing cash and credit facility reporting, and establishing a robust control environment. The position is hands-on, requiring a blend of strategic policy setting and detailed bookkeeping. The successful candidate will report to the VP of Finance & Business Operations and collaborate with a Finance & Strategy Manager. The company utilizes an integrated tech stack including QuickBooks Online, Ramp, and proprietary platforms, with AI agents automating transactional tasks.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Full ownership of a monthly close, including calendar, entries, reconciliations, and meeting deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Proficiency in GAAP, including accruals, cutoffs, revenue recognition, inventory/COGS accounting, and internal controls.
  • Ability to apply and explain accounting principles.
  • Credibility in both posting journal entries and writing accounting policies.
  • Controller-level judgment and bookkeeper-level willingness.
  • Deep QuickBooks Online (or equivalent ERP) skills.
  • Comfort with integrated fintech stacks like Ramp and bill-pay tools.
  • Experience with ERP migration or implementation is ideal.
  • Detail-oriented with strong reconciliation discipline.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and building processes from scratch.
  • Willingness to write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Nice To Haves

  • Inventory, manufacturing, commodities, or distribution accounting experience.
  • Asset-based lending or borrowing base reporting experience.
  • Public accounting foundation (audit) before moving into industry.
  • Experience preparing for a first audit or investor diligence.
  • Hands-on use of AI tools in accounting workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close process, including the close calendar, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, flux review, and delivery of financial statements.
  • Investigate and explain key financial variances.
  • Maintain daily accuracy of the books, including AP and AR workflows, bill processing, billing and cash application, and expense management.
  • Own inventory accounting, including cost per pound, inventory GL integrity, and reconciliation between the operating platform and the ledger.
  • Manage cash and lender reporting, including bank account reconciliation, daily cash activity monitoring, preparation of the weekly borrowing base certificate, and facilitation of banking transactions.
  • Run payroll accounting and related accruals in partnership with HR, reconcile payroll liability and benefits accounts, and coordinate tax filings, payments, and exemption compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce accounting policies, approval thresholds, and segregation of duties.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors and banks.
  • Manage accounting systems including QuickBooks Online, Ramp, bill-pay tools, and their integrations.
  • Lead ERP evaluation and migration when necessary.
  • Supervise and improve AI agent output for accounting tasks, extending automation coverage.
