About The Position

The Controller serves as the head of the accounting function and the organization's day to day steward of financial accuracy, integrity, and clarity. This leadership role is responsible for clean, reliable, and timely GAAP financials, strong internal controls, and a well-run accounting operation. The Controller reports directly to the CEO and is a trusted thought partner to the leadership and management teams - supporting budgeting, forecasting, and translating financial results into clear, decision-ready insights.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting; applicable experience may be considered in lieu of degree
Minimum of eight years of progressive accounting experience, including AR, AP, GL, and GAAP financial reporting
Demonstrated experience leading or managing an accounting team
Strong accounting systems experience; Sage Intacct experience a plus
Self-starter with strong attention to detail, professional judgment, and communication skills

Nice To Haves

Construction, solar, or job‑costing experience strongly preferred
Experience in small‑to‑mid‑size, mission‑driven, or employee‑owned organizations preferred

Responsibilities

Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and GAAP compliance
Prepare, review, and present accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
Own the general ledger, chart of accounts, accounting policies, and internal controls
Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, ensuring timely processing and high standards of internal and external service
Manage job costing and WIP accounting for residential and commercial solar projects
Develop and maintain repeatable methodologies for allocating expenses across revenue centers
Partner with department leaders to support budgeting, reforecasting, and OPEX visibility
Provide clear, accurate financial reporting and explanations
Serve as primary liaison with external auditors and support all audit, tax, insurance and compliance activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders and external advisors
Oversee accounting ERP systems (Sage Intacct) and identify opportunities to improve integrations, reporting, and processes
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team; establish goals, expectations, and accountability
