About The Position

The USMS Accounting Clerk plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations of the United States Marshals Service by accurately processing and maintaining accounting records. This position ensures that all financial transactions are recorded in compliance with federal regulations and agency policies, contributing to the integrity and transparency of the agency's financial management. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping, preferably within a government or law enforcement environment.
  • Proficiency in basic accounting principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with federal financial management systems or government accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of the United States Marshals Service operations and federal procurement processes.
  • Advanced skills in spreadsheet analysis and financial reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Process and verify invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests in accordance with federal guidelines.
  • Maintain and update accounting records, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies by communicating with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Prepare financial reports and documentation to support audits and budget reviews.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of accounting systems and procedures.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding financial transactions and provide support to other accounting staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies related to financial management.
