About The Position

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for accounting transactions that may involve any division within or assigned to the Finance Department. The role involves compiling data from various sources and supporting documents to verify the accuracy of transactions and processing them efficiently. Additional duties include maintaining files, reconciling statements, communicating with customers, and assisting with other divisional tasks.

Requirements

  • Vocational/technical school training in Business Administration or Accounting
  • Four (4) years of experience in general office procedures and accounting practices
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines, including a computer, calculator, copier, mail machine, and binder.
  • Must be able to exert up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to fifty-five pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Processes transactions associated with the division of assignment, ensuring daily workflow is accurate and properly processed.
  • Performs duties associated with the bi-weekly payroll process.
  • Prepares deposits from transactions of various departments.
  • Communicates with outside vendors, customers, citizens, and visitors.
  • Creates necessary accounting packets for daily processing to the general ledger.
  • Maintains accounting files (physically, electronically, or both).
  • May assist the Finance Department in the budget process.
  • Prepares and balances monthly registers and reports associated with the division of assignment.
  • Verifies accounting information maintained in the City software.
  • Reconciles outside reports associated with daily workflow.
  • Prepares annual reports required by outside agencies and other governmental units.
  • May be assigned other accounting functions within the department during emergencies.
  • Operates a variety of equipment including a calculator, computer, printer, copier, binder, and postage meter.
  • Assists with other activities such as answering phones, substituting for other departmental personnel, accounts payable, proofreading, keypunching, copying, filing, ordering checks and miscellaneous office supplies, and taking mail to the Post Office.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Learns and executes emergency operations procedures for their respective department and position during times of emergency, which may include assignment to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
