About The Position

The Accounting Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the accounting operations of the electric cooperative. This role ensures timely processing of financial transactions, assists with reporting requirements, and helps maintain compliance with regulatory and cooperative accounting standards.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience (utility or cooperative experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, or utility-specific systems)
  • Solid Excel and data entry skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Integrity and trustworthiness in handling financial data
  • Commitment to serving cooperative members and supporting the cooperative’s mission
  • Adaptability in a regulated utility environment

Responsibilities

  • Record and maintain accurate financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries
  • Process vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and payments in a timely manner
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card accounts, and subsidiary ledgers
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
  • Maintain records of member billing and receipts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with cooperative policies
  • Support payroll processing and related reporting, as needed
  • Prepare and assist in generating financial reports and statements
  • Monitor and maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
  • Ensure proper documentation and filing of financial records in accordance with audit and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and support
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial data and member information
  • Support compliance with Rural Utilities Service (RUS), National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC), and other regulatory reporting standards, as applicable
