The Accounting Associate is responsible for supporting the organization’s financial operations through accurate recordkeeping, account reconciliations, reporting, and system maintenance. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely month-end close, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting process improvements across accounting systems. This position is responsible for grant compliance, mission-driven reporting, and supports stewardship of donors and grant funds. Various additional functions with specific deadlines are also a part of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field and/or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience with the following: MS Windows, Excel, Word, and including Import/Export of data and merging/manipulation of data.
  • Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and grant management

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with Accounting systems preferred, particularly SGA and Daxko Operations, and Campbrain.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare daily and monthly journal entries in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Conduct grant reconciliations, ensuring revenue and expenses align with grant budgets and compliance requirements.
  • Manage and reconcile credit card activity, ensuring timely posting to SGA.
  • Execute and maintain the month-end close checklist to support timely financial reporting.
  • Summarize monthly branch/program variance reports, highlighting key differences between budget and actuals.
  • Support preparation and submission of CHEFA reporting in accordance with post issuance requirements and debt covenants.
  • Assist with system maintenance and evaluation, improving workflows and internal controls.
  • Support file migration to OneDrive, ensuring accessibility, standardization and consistency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate financial data and support organizational initiatives.
  • Support the development of future budgets, including trend analysis and collaboration with program leaders on projections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
