About The Position

The non-supervisory role of the Accounting Assistant is to support the Continental Plastic (CPC) accounting function in daily operations to drive CPC profitability and achieve organizational objectives. Under the guidance of the Director - Finance, this role involves maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and assisting with financial reporting tasks.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting with at least 2 years of directly related experience (preferably in manufacturing).
  • Coursework should be supplemented with keyboarding/word processing, spreadsheets, business math, and general accounting.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge level of MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience working with general ledger software such as Great Plains, Oracle, and ERP (Epicor CMS).
  • Ability to build positive team relationships and achieve outcome-oriented objectives.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (LEAN Enterprise) with a holistic viewpoint.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, setting priorities and managing time effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, managing own calendar and deadlines while maintaining an awareness of other business dependencies, when completing assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable.
  • Assist in tracking and managing CPCs outstanding payments to suppliers and customer payments.
  • Reviewing and processing incoming invoices from vendors, ensuring they are accurate, and preparing them for payment.
  • Communicate with vendors and clients regarding billing issues, payment discrepancies, and resolving any queries.
  • Assist in reconciling bank statements ensuring transactions are accounted for correctly.
  • Enter financial data into accounting software or spreadsheets ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Organize and maintain financial documents, ledgers, and receipts for easy access and compliance purposes.
  • Support the preparation and monitoring of budgets by providing financial data and reports.
  • Monitor and track actual expenses to budget alerting the Director - Finance of any extraordinary variances.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing procedures and in creating financial statements like profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Support the team in gathering necessary data/documents to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
  • Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.
  • Perform general duties like filing, organizing, and scheduling meetings for the accounting work area.
  • Respond to inquiries from internal work areas and external vendors regarding related accounting issues.
