About The Position

CoBank interns get real-life exposure to the daily duties of their group. They spend the summer as a valued member of their respective team, learning business skills and assisting with a variety of projects that have an impact on the bank’s operations. An additional focus of the summer intern will be to complete a capstone project that will seek to add value to the team they are supporting. Over your 10-week paid internship, our Accounting and Financial Operations Intern will play a crucial role in supporting our finance team by handling a variety of tasks. They will prepare monthly journal entries and assist with account reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy. Their responsibilities will include processing accounts payable, generating general ledger close reports, and compiling other essential accounting reports. They will also contribute to quarterly financial reporting by performing tie-outs, quality reviews, and maintaining checklists. Additionally, the intern will support the processing and reporting of benefit plans, patronage transactions, and financial instruments. This internship offers hands-on experience in financial operations and provides an opportunity to develop a strong foundation in accounting practices. This role is hybrid; interns will come into their designated office at least 3 days a week. Interns work approximately 40 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in and working towards a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related discipline and in good academic standing.
  • Internship applicants must be students with expected graduation dates between December 2027 and May 2029 to be considered for this opportunity.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and assist with account reconciliations.
  • Process accounts payable.
  • Generate general ledger close reports.
  • Compile other essential accounting reports.
  • Support quarterly financial reporting by performing tie-outs, quality reviews, and maintaining checklists.
  • Support the processing and reporting of benefit plans, patronage transactions, and financial instruments.
  • Assists in recording monthly close journal entries for various revenue and expense accounts as well as balance sheet accounts, and any other entry needed to properly complete the month-end financials.
  • Works with internal providers of information to ensure accuracy of journal entries and schedules.
  • Coordinates monthly reconciliation and maintenance of asset, liability and equity accounts.
  • Assists with accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Assists with external financial reporting and regulatory reporting.
  • Helps comply with GAAP, internal control and regulatory requirements.
