About The Position

We have a job opening for the position of Accounting/Audit Business Unit Student at Palmetto GBA, a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Responsibilities may vary based on departmental needs and the intern’s experience. Working under direct supervision, the intern will perform entry level tasks while learning professional level responsibilities related to healthcare auditing. The intern will work closely with the Audit team and will be exposed to a wide range of activities, including reviewing non hospital provider cost reports. Similar to tax related review processes, interns will gain hands on experience reviewing cost reports submitted by healthcare facilities under government contract requirements. This internship provides a strong introduction to healthcare auditing, and the team is committed to developing talent with the goal of retaining high performing interns for long term opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 12 semester hours earned in the field(s) specified by the hiring area
  • Currently enrolled in college and working towards obtaining at least a 4-year degree in the field(s) specified by the hiring area
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Analytical or critical thinking skills
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion
  • Good planning and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to follow directions and ask questions to ensure a productive internship
  • Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level tasks while learning professional-level responsibilities related to healthcare auditing.
  • Review non-hospital provider cost reports.
  • Gain hands-on experience reviewing cost reports submitted by healthcare facilities under government contract requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of various activities and programs for assigned business units within the organization.
  • Participate in business unit/department training designed to help this position acquire applicable knowledge/skills in their area of study.
  • Complete area tasks that are conducive to learning the departmental procedures and applying industry/field best practices.
  • Communicate with other areas of the company.
  • Conduct research and analysis of various reports (monthly, quarterly, annually).
  • Perform tasks that help in learning the business area and which provide an overall view of company operations.
  • Assist other staff members with everyday tasks to gain an understanding of business operations and workflow.
  • Complete other assigned area related tasks.
  • Identify areas of need improvement and communicate to management.
