About The Position

Our student and new graduate programs offer a chance to explore Sun Life from the inside. This co-op opportunity will have a combination of in-person and remote work. Remote work outside of Canada will not be a possibility. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting, the Accounting Analyst, Co-op will support the Financial Reporting team with quarter and year end processes as well as other related projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a university level degree, with the intention to obtain a CPA designation.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal direction and frequent interruptions
  • Ability to be proactive - thinking several steps ahead to understand and address needs
  • Ability to thrive in an environment with pressing deadlines and constantly changing conditions
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and leadership ability
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, and excellent interpersonal relations to interact professionally with people at all levels of the company
  • Proficiency working with Windows and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn new software applications quickly
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Must possess a high level of commitment and dedication to the role and the team
  • Flexibility and commitment to work significant overtime as required

Responsibilities

  • Quarter end/year end reporting responsibilities for financial statement preparation
  • Help in process improvement projects and initiatives during the off-quarter/ year end work
  • Review external financial statements including proof reading, checking data inputs, and validation checks
  • Participate in a world-class training program as you work towards your Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Under supervision, prepare financial statements for non-public companies for governance and tax reporting
  • Ensure effective delivery, filing, and record keeping to support the external audit process
  • Provide project control of audit process by collecting and tracking audit requirements and ensuring timely deliverables
  • Other ad-hoc projects as required
