About The Position

This position is responsible for teaching classes primarily in Accounting, with a preference for general business administration classes. The role involves teaching both online and in-person classes, beginning in the Fall term in September 2026. The primary focus (90% of time) is on teaching, which includes using various instructional methodologies appropriate for different audiences and learning styles, evaluating students, and creating course syllabi. The remaining 10% of time is dedicated to general duties such as working effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring compliance with college policies, pursuing professional growth, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • A Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated college teaching experience, preferably in a community college, or documented training and experience in a business training environment.
  • Knowledge and ability to instruct various audiences, both individuals and groups, considering various learning modalities and methods.
  • Knowledge of computers and the ability to integrate appropriate technologies into the Accounting and Business curriculum.
  • Ability to use instructional delivery methods that enhance broad public access to post-secondary education.
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
  • Ability to evaluate student progress both empirically and holistically and to prescribe and develop curriculum materials for individuals and classes.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use instructional delivery methods that reflect an adult orientation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with department members and college community members in meetings and on projects.
  • Ability to review, understand, apply, and share concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Willingness to teach at various hours as required.
  • Must reside in the State of Oregon.
  • Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Teach various courses in Accounting and Business Administration.
  • Use instructional methodology appropriate to the audience and student, including lecture, demonstration, group discussion, and technology-enhanced or distance delivery.
  • Explain and deliver materials in a variety of ways to meet the needs of a broad range of learning activities.
  • Evaluate students in accordance with course outline criteria and college policies.
  • Turn in grades according to college policy and procedure.
  • Create a course syllabus for each course taught, including course outcomes, structure, materials, grading criteria, due dates, exam dates, and office hours.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ensure compliance with all Southwestern Oregon Community College rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of teaching techniques.
  • Perform Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned.
