About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for activities related to daily financial operations, including monthly calculations and reporting, the monthly close process, and control and compliance functions. The position reviews journal entries and general ledger reconciliations prepared by others, supports audit and compliance reporting, and maintains databases and spreadsheets used for payment calculations and reporting. It is based at the Reverend Hugh Cooper Administrative Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is a full-time, exempt position working day shifts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Six to eight years of progressive experience in related areas.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively with other departments and function effectively under pressure.
• Strong Microsoft Office application skills, especially Excel and Access.

Nice To Haves

• Two to three years of experience in health plan finance.

Responsibilities

• Review monthly general ledger journal entries prepared by staff accountants and monthly GL reconciliations for accuracy; direct correcting entries as needed.
• Coordinate and serve as a point of contact for annual audits and quarterly reviews; prepare and review audit schedules and verify that external auditors have received requested information.
• Assist with compliance reporting to governmental agencies and other third parties, ensuring requirements are met and reports are accurate and timely.
• Maintain databases and spreadsheets for calculating payments and preparing reports distributed internally and externally.
• Work with cross-functional departments and external parties to ensure information is accurate and timely.
• Perform other functions as required, including conducting and receiving cross-training.
