About The Position

The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is recruiting for an Accountant 2.1 to support the Great Falls District. This position can be located in the Great Falls office or the Havre office. Responsible for providing high-level accounting support to District staff by providing technical assistance on cost centers, performing reconciliations, processing journals, researching accounting transactions and errors, and account coding guidance. Will perform financial analysis to ensure consistent and proper accounting treatment between programs. This position is part of a career ladder with career advancement opportunities. This position reports to the District Financial Section Supervisor and does not supervise others.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, OR 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree
  • 1 year of related accounting or financial experience
  • Ability to apply the concepts and theories of government finance, accounting and budgeting
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to formulate recommendations based on analysis of financial transactions
  • Must pass a name-based background investigation as a condition of employment
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire
