About The Position

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Controller, this position is responsible for general accounting functions, including accounts payable vendor management, accounts receivable and cash receipts processing, and fixed asset accounting.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in business/finance/accounting or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school (minimum).
  • One to two years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and finance/accountingspecific software applications.
  • Strong working knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft required, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and formula-based reconciliations, to manage data exported from multiple financial systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment within an open work space environment.
  • Strong customer service skills when working with members and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of commitment to and ability to communicate the YMCA mission

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with Power Query preferred, particularly for combining and cleaning data from multiple source systems.

Responsibilities

  • Exports financial data and transactions from source systems, reformats, and imports into the accounting system on a weekly basis.
  • Researches account issues, evaluates data to determine appropriate revenue recognition and/or accounting period, and prepares journal entries as needed.
  • Supports Accounts Payable by managing vendor setup and assisting with 1099s and escheats.
  • Supports Accounts Receivable / Cash Receipts by posting cash receipts into the accounting system, making bank deposits, and assisting with collections as needed.
  • Maintains fixed asset records, prepares and processes journal entries for reclassifications, asset clearing, depreciation, and construction-in-progress.
  • Prepares correcting journal entries and completes assigned reconciliations and monthly financial closing tasks.
  • Assists with the annual audit process.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
