About The Position

The Accountant plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of B&B Contracting Group by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and external reporting requirements. This role involves handling a variety of accounting tasks, including equipment and fuel costing, project billing, and intercompany transactions across multiple divisions. They will work closely with the Assistant Controller, project managers, payroll, and operations teams to ensure accurate job costing, timely reporting, and efficient financial processes.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction or engineering industry.
  • Experience with construction accounting software (e.g. SAP, Viewpoint, Sage 300, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of accrual accounting and job cost principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional communication skills (both written and verbal).

Nice To Haves

  • Enrollment in, or completion of, a recognized professional accounting designation (CPA) considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations for month-end and year-end closing.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all financial transactions.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank, credit card expense (Concur), and intercompany accounts.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules, in coordination with senior finance staff.
  • Support year-end audit preparations and liaise with external auditors.
  • Perform detailed equipment costing, job costing, and cost analysis to support accurate project financial reporting and operational decision-making.
  • Perform variance analysis on job costs, fuel usage, and equipment hours relative to labour hours.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and relevant legislation (including CRA requirements).
  • Maintain supporting documentation for all financial transactions in an organized and auditable format.
  • Provide financial data and analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Support ERP implementation and optimization initiatives, including testing, data validation, process improvements, and end-user support.
  • Support the Finance team in daily operations and take on additional tasks as needed.
