About The Position

The Accountant supports the bank’s consumer and business banking activities. Maintains adequate accounting and control for various accounting functions. Prepares financial statements and reports. Maintains and develops automated accounting systems, controls, and procedures. Prepares and develops reports for management and/or for regulatory authorities. Responds to inquiries regarding accounting policies, procedures, and issues from management, external auditors, and regulatory authorities. The position requires a high degree of autonomy and self-direction, with the ability to take initiative and deliver results independently. Produces accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports. Analyzes financial trends, resolves complex accounting issues, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data throughout the month end close. Contribute to the enhancement of accounting processes, reporting efficiencies, and internal controls. This role offers the opportunity to expand leadership capabilities over time, including guiding teammates, championing best practices, and potentially stepping into formal people management responsibilities as the department evolves.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience
  • Two or more years of experience in financial accounting activities
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
  • Considerable knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulations
  • Considerable knowledge of accounting, reporting, and analysis
  • Ability to identify and resolve exceptions and to analyze data

Responsibilities

  • Maintains adequate accounting and control for various accounting functions.
  • Prepares financial statements and reports.

  • Prepares journal entries with strong supporting documentation and oversees detailed account reconciliations.
  • Uses core systems effectively; reduces manual work through templates or queries.
  • Self-reviews work, flags issues early, and follows through to resolution.
  • Standardizes recurring analyses and closes gaps through small-scale automation.
  • Builds draft policy/job aids that improve consistency and onboarding.
  • Acts as a go-to resource for complex accounts or processes and coaches peers.
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex tasks, and provide insightful analysis.
  • Produces accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports.
  • Analyzes financial trends, resolves complex accounting issues, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data throughout the month end close.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of accounting processes, reporting efficiencies, and internal controls.
