About The Position

Under general supervision, the selected candidate will be performing the following duties and will be allowed to use their discretion to make independent decisions. This position involves preparing reports, performing analyses, and reviewing payroll program plans and funding. The role includes calculating tax windfalls for employees on workers' compensation, preparing workers' compensation transactions to capture NYCHA's savings, and maintaining individual control logs. The candidate will also plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, and/or evaluate programs providing important payroll-related services for the NYCHA community. Additionally, the position requires providing technical assistance and training to subordinate staff, utilizing payroll programs for Payroll Distribution Change Requests, and processing employee job and payroll data. The selected candidate will release and prepare information for NYCHA employees, provide customer service on payroll issues, assist in special payroll projects, and perform other related duties, including providing backup support for staff and the pending retiree community.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
  • A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
  • At least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience (to be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II).

Responsibilities
