About The Position

The Accountant position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Business Office, focusing on payroll, accounts payable, and federal grant monitoring. This role involves maintaining financial records, processing transactions, managing payroll, and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. The accountant will work closely with other Business Office employees to ensure good internal controls, proper transactions, and efficient service.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in accounting procedures to keep records of assigned accounts accurately and efficiently required.
  • Mastery of personal computers, ability to use accounting and payroll software, and knowledge of Microsoft software required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration with an accounting emphasis preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of governmental fund accounting either through education or experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) preferred.
  • Experience in public contact work and/or educational setting preferred but not required; strong human relations skills.
  • Team-oriented; history of professional growth; demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of personalities and settings; willingness to adapt to specific or new working situations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with other Business Office employees on day-to-day operations of the Business Office.
  • Develop and employ practices to ensure good internal controls, proper transactions, and efficient service for the public and staff.
  • Maintain a complete and systematic set of all financial transactions of District funds as assigned by the Coordinator of Business Services.
  • Maintain detailed individual records for assigned funds; including purchase orders, process invoices to pay authorized bills, order money, and keep track of the balances of assigned funds.
  • Manage federal grant funds in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and grant requirements; ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of expenditures; prepare financial reports for grant compliance and audit purposes; and collaborate with program administrators to ensure proper use of funds.
  • Process and manage employee payroll, ensuring accurate and timely compensation in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Prepare fiscal reports in coordination with other Business Office employees as required by the Board of Trustees, State Department of Education, State of Wyoming, and/or the Federal government.
