About the role The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the accounting department by maintaining financial records, preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end close activities, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. This is a full-time Monday to Friday position based in Edmonton, with hybrid/remote flexibility.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and IFRS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP functions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • 2–5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field.
  • English – Written and spoken – Excellent command

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to ERP systems and financial tools (SUN6, Cognos, or similar) preferred.
  • MBA or CFA preferred for senior roles.
  • Finance qualification along with professional certification (CA, CPA, CFA, ACCA, AGMA) is advantageous.
  • Spanish – added advantage

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Analyze financial data and investigate account variances.
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity.
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and cash account analyses.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Support external and internal audits by providing required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and internal controls.
  • Process fixed asset transactions and maintain depreciation schedules.
  • Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions, as applicable.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Support tax compliance activities, including sales tax and other regulatory filings.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and accounting efficiencies.
