About The Position

The Division of Rehabilitation Services is seeking to hire a meticulous and precise Accountant to perform professional accounting and auditing work in the maintenance of the account system utilized at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired. The Accountant prepares, maintains, examines and reconciles financial ledgers for general revenue funds allocated to the school. The incumbent prepares and reviews vendor payments and employee reimbursements for general revenue and grant funded items, including travel reimbursements in compliance with Governor’s Travel Board regulations. This position analyzes the billing of student school districts transportation reimbursements to the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI). The Accountant also prepares and reviews vendor payments and employee reimbursements for general revenue and grant funded items, including travel reimbursements in compliance with Governor’s Travel Board regulations.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting OR four (4) years of technical accounting experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
  • Must meet Illinois School for the Visually Impaired health and safety requirements.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Performs professional accounting and auditing work in the maintenance of the account system utilized at the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired.
  • Prepares and reviews vendor payments and employee reimbursements for general revenue and grant funded items, including travel reimbursements in compliance with Governor’s Travel Board regulations.
  • Reviews, interprets, and analyzes Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) grant allocations.
  • Analyzes the billing of student school districts transportation reimbursements for the Illinois School for the Visually Impaired (ISVI).
  • Prints, sorts and distributes Telecom bills for signatures.
  • Receives, reviews and processes cash receipts.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
