About The Position

The Accountant at the Fiscal Department under the direction and oversight of the Senior Accountant II, assists with financial administration, auditing, and regulatory compliance of the Representative Payee program. The accountant performs specialized accounting tasks with a heavy emphasis on analyzing account transactions, client budgets, spending trends, processing complex inquiries, and ensuring all participant balances remain within federal asset limits. This position is fully in-person at your corporate office in Chicopee, MA.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree required in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration preferred.
  • Software and general adaptability, organization, and versatility required.
  • Keen attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in processing complex financial data required.
  • Proven ability to find errors, solve problems, and manage time to meet strict, time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced Microsoft Office and Excel.
  • Visual acuity to review written and computer screen data for extended periods.
  • Manual coordination and dexterity to operate standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Accounting or Representative Payee experience with a strong background in auditing, compliance, or financial analysis preferred.
  • Experience with AccuFund and True Link (or similar fiscal/debit card management software) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze account transactions and financial records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor bank balances and debit card activity to maintain compliance with federal and state financial guidelines.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and client activity within the accounting system.
  • Prepare and report reconciled balances to internal teams and external agencies.
  • Set up and manage client accounts, including budgeting, disbursements, recurring payments, and transaction tracking.
  • Process and record deposits, including client funds and payroll-related transactions.
  • Coordinate the setup and closure of accounts with financial institutions and government agencies.
  • Communicate with Social Security and other agencies to resolve benefit issues, submit required reports, and respond to inquiries.
