About The Position

The Accountant will be responsible for supporting month-end accounting close activities, preparing and analyzing financial data, and ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting. This role involves preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting packages for Canadian operations. The Accountant will also support audits, tax filings, and compliance requirements, while staying updated on emerging Canadian accounting standards and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Recognized Canadian accounting designation required, such as Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA); legacy designations including CA, CMA or CGA may be considered where recognized by the applicable provincial accounting body.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience required.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, internal controls and compliance expectations applicable to corporate accounting environments.
  • Knowledge of cost allocation methodologies, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Familiarity with accounting applications and their administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • An ability to work well under multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Support month-end accounting close activities by preparing and analyzing data, accruals, variance analysis, supporting schedules and other financial reporting inputs in accordance with established close timelines.
  • Prepare, review and post routine and month-end journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, allocations and other adjustments, ensuring entries are accurate, properly supported and aligned with accounting policies and standards.
  • Prepare and enhance account reconciliations for balance sheet and general ledger accounts, investigate reconciling items and variances, resolve discrepancies on a timely basis and maintain clear documentation to support review and audit requirements.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting packages, including financial statement support, account fluctuation analysis and other management reporting deliverables for Canadian operations.
  • Support internal controls, compliance activities and internal, external and SOX-related audits by preparing schedules, supporting documentation and responding to information requests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support the management of the company’s borrowing base reporting function.
  • Keep abreast of emerging Canadian accounting issues, including applicable accounting standards, tax and regulatory requirements, and assist in developing accounting practices, reporting disclosures and process documentation for new standards or requirements.
  • Prepare worksheets, reconciliations and supporting schedules for federal and provincial tax filings, regulatory reporting and other compliance requirements applicable to Canadian operations.
  • Support the processing of accounts payable.
