About The Position

Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility serving rural Wright County and western Hennepin County since 1937. Today, we provide safe, reliable electricity to more than 59,000 member accounts while remaining committed to the communities we serve. Position Summary Wright-Hennepin is seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our Financial Services team. In this role, you will apply your accounting expertise and technical skills to support accurate financial reporting and ensure the Cooperative continues to deliver reliable, cost-effective services to our members. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness, along with a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Associate’s degree in Accounting with 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Cooperative accounting experience preferred
  • Sound knowledge of GAAP
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP and RUS Uniform System of Accounts
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting, including operating statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Maintain accurate subledgers and perform timely account reconciliations
  • Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules and assisting auditors
  • Assist with budget preparation and data entry
  • Complete sales and property tax filings and stay current on tax regulations
  • Prepare monthly reporting, including generator reports
  • Partner with internal teams to research and provide financial information
  • Complete sales tax and property tax filings and stay abreast of changing sales tax rates and jurisdictions, and taxable products/services
  • Review contracts, process invoices, and execute accounts payable, including preparing and obtaining W9s and vendor validations
  • Contribute to special projects as needed
  • Help execute the Financial Services annual work plan
  • Develop cross-functional knowledge to provide backup support across accounting functions
  • Participate in department and Cooperative meetings
  • Engage in ongoing training and development opportunities
