About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Insurance is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accountant 1/2/3 to join the Office of Management & Finance/Fiscal Division. In this position, you will assist with financial reporting, account reconciliation, budget and expenditure tracking, and other fiscal operations that support the agency’s daily business functions. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and maintain financial reports, records, and accounting documentation.
  • Monitor, reconcile, and track revenues, expenditures, budgets, and related fiscal transactions.
  • Process and review financial information for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assist with account reconciliations, audits, financial analysis, and fiscal reporting activities.
  • Maintain organized fiscal records and documentation while handling confidential financial information appropriately.
  • Communicate professionally with agency staff, vendors, auditors, and other stakeholders regarding fiscal and accounting matters.
  • Review purchases, invoices, contracts, or payment-related documentation for compliance and accuracy.
  • Utilize accounting systems, spreadsheets, and other financial software to support fiscal operations and reporting.
  • Assist with budget preparation, expenditure monitoring, and financial forecasting activities.
  • Participate in training and ongoing learning related to accounting procedures, financial systems, and state fiscal policies.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
