About The Position

As a member of OpenText’s Finance team, the Accountant supports the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting through hands‑on execution of foundational accounting activities. This role focuses on preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and basic analyses, as well as supporting month‑end close, audit activities, and internal control requirements. The Accountant follows established processes, builds technical expertise, and contributes to the continuous improvement of documentation and reporting practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Accounting or a related field
  • 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience with foundational US GAAP knowledge
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn and ask questions, and demonstrated problem‑solving skills with sound judgment
  • Ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment while working collaboratively within a team
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills supported by strong interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and required SAP experience

  • CPA enrollment considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Prepare payroll journal entries and accruals in accordance with US GAAP and company policies, and support month‑end close activities including preparation of accurate, clearly supported, and up‑to‑date balance sheet reconciliations with guidance on resolving reconciling items
  • Assist with month‑over‑month and quarter‑over‑quarter variance analysis for assigned balance sheet and P&L accounts, investigate variances and discrepancies, and escalate issues as appropriate
  • Build strong working relationships with cross‑functional teams to obtain information, resolve issues, and support accurate financial reporting
  • Support SOX controls and internal control requirements through documentation and evidence preparation, and assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Participate in special projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives while following documented processes and identifying opportunities for clarification or improvement
