About The Position

Responsible for performing professional accounting tasks such as maintaining and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and accounting records for funds primarily including General Fund, internal service funds, trust and agency funds, and general capital project fund types. This role involves complex accounting tasks, preparing and maintaining various account reconciliations, preparing and monitoring capital bond project reporting, and preparing regular and special reports for regulatory agencies. The accountant will also prepare financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, assist in maintaining internal accounting control systems, and help with compliance and implementation of new Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements. Additionally, the position assists in the budget process, provides management reports, researches and analyzes accounting-related issues, assures financial accuracy and compliance, prepares statements for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and performs special projects. Collaboration with outside and internal auditors is also a key part of the role.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, or related field; and, Two (2) years’ experience in accounting, finance, or related field, OR Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses resulting in a candidate successfully performing the essential function of the job.
• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Knowledge of effective research-based strategies, theories, techniques, and methodologies.
• Skill in analyzing, researching, interpreting, and understanding policies, laws, and regulations and to provide workable recommendations and solutions that maintain compliance.
• Skill in moderate problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
• Skill at the intermediate level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work.
• Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers.
• Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

• Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification check.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex accounting tasks such as maintaining and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and accounting records for funds primarily including General Fund, internal service funds, trust and agency funds, and general capital project fund types.
• Prepare and maintain various account reconciliations including property tax, sales tax, miscellaneous receivables, bank/outstanding checks reconciliations, and payroll accounts.
• Prepare, record, and monitor capital bond project reporting.
• Prepare regular and special reports for regulatory agencies upon request.
• Prepare financial statements and other supporting schedules and analyses in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Assist in maintaining internal accounting control systems for the organization.
• Assist in maintaining compliance and implementing new Governmental Accounting Standards Board statements.
• Assist in the budget process as needed.
• Provide management reports as requested/necessary.
• Research, analyze, and make recommendations to management regarding various accounting related issues such as conformance with City ordinances and policies.
• Assure financial accuracy and compliance with internal policies and procedures.
• Prepare statements, notes, and statistical information for the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
• Perform special projects as assigned, which require a high level of understanding of accounting theory and concepts.
• Work with outside and internal Auditors as necessary.
