About The Position

This position will be reporting to the Accounting Manager and based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Accountant is a critical member of the plant operations accounting team performing the accounting, reporting, and analysis of various PJM fossil and nuclear plant activities, as well as supporting the development and application of US GAAP accounting policies and maintaining internal controls. This position is responsible for accounting activity related to margins, capital projects, operating expense, and various balance sheet accounts. Responsibilities may involve activities related to new business initiatives as well as complying with the control (SOX) environment of the Company. The ability to correctly account for a wide range of activity and proactively identify and resolve accounting issues is a critical success factor for the candidate. The ideal candidate enjoys fostering teamwork, a collaborative approach with colleagues, and a strategic thinking environment which culminates in a “work hard and reap the rewards” culture of a Publicly Traded Independent Power Producer. Our office is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania and this position would work in a hybrid model with some flexibility for remote work.

  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize critical tasks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with various departments and managers
  • Ability to multitask and to remain calm and patient within compressed timelines
  • Accounting or finance degree (or equivalent); graduate degree is a plus
  • 3 – 5 years of experience preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Public Accounting experience within a large firm with SEC and/or power industry clients is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of journal entries related to: Energy and fuel, Fixed assets, Inventory – coal, oil, materials, Operation and maintenance expenses, Prepaid assets, Investment and equity activity, Monthly accruals
  • Maintain appropriate systems: General ledger, Fixed assets, Inventory
  • Perform and review account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts, ensure accuracy of information and provide variance analysis
  • Prepares and analyzes financial statements and other internal/external financial reports
  • Prepares Balance Sheet and Income Statement Flux Analysis
  • Prepares and analyzes requested information in support of the audit requests
  • Assists in the preparation of financial statement workpapers
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services.
  • Solves more complex problems taking a new perspective on existing solutions
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP accounting and SEC reporting, FERC, NERC and OSHA requirements, State and Federal rules and laws, and support of any internal department requiring additional knowledge of the accounting department functions
  • Increases and applies knowledge of legal and regulatory issues and changes in accounting guidance
