About The Position

As an Accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the agency’s financial operations. You’ll prepare and document journal entries, perform monthly reconciliations, and review financial data to support timely and compliant reporting. Using Cardinal and FMS, you’ll extract and verify financial information, assist with month‑ and year‑end close activities, and help prepare financial statements and statewide reporting submissions. You’ll also contribute to variance review, audit support, and system testing efforts, helping strengthen internal controls and improve financial processes across the agency. Requirements

  • Working knowledge of GAAP, governmental accounting, and financial requirements.
  • Basic understanding of internal controls and audit-related documentation.
  • Skill in preparing journal entries, performing reconciliations, and reviewing financial data.
  • Ability to prepare standard financial reports and statements.
  • Proficiency with financial systems such as Cardinal and FMS and with spreadsheet tools like Excel.
  • Experience with general ledger reconciliations and journal entry preparation.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, work independently on routine tasks, and collaborate as part of a team.
  • A valid Virginia Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or if operating a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.

  • Familiarity with Cardinal or Oracle-based financial systems.
