About The Position

The Staff Accountant supports the Accounting Manager Corporate by providing general ledger accounting and plays a key role in the month-end financial close. The position prepares journal entries, deposits checks, and reconciles balance sheet accounts. It also supports accounting for the Housing Department, assists with software and tool implementation, and provides internal customer service to departments needing help accessing accounting data.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
At least 1 year of work experience in accounting or a similar role.
Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with ERP and reporting systems.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in a high-volume, complex environment.
Experience with EPICOR and MRI Housing Software.

Responsibilities

Prepare routine journal entries, inter-departmental reclassifications, and accruals.
Prepare assigned audit support documentation.
Perform assigned balance sheet reconciliations on time and in compliance with US GAAP.
Identify accounting processes and manual tasks for improvement.
Assist departments with access to accounting data and provide internal customer service.
Coordinate on other projects as requested.
Maintain accounting records in MRI housing software.
Review and post batches prepared by property managers and housing staff.
Receive accounting department mail and make electronic deposits of checks.
Review past-due accounts and recommend bad debt reserves.
Verify balances for past-due accounts submitted to collections.
Oversee closure of the outdated housing accounting system.
Assist with development and implementation of new or existing software systems and other tools as needed.
