About The Position

The Staff Accountant supports Goodwin’s General Ledger accounting team with day-to-day accounting activities. The work includes financial transactions, month-end close, bank and general ledger reconciliations, budgeting and forecasting support, financial reporting, banking transactions, and year-end audit and tax schedules. The role also documents processes, recommends improvements to controls and productivity, identifies opportunities to improve efficiency and automate routine tasks, and provides backup support across the team. The Accountant works collaboratively across departments to help ensure financial information is accurate and timely.

Requirements

Experience working in a fast-paced, high-level customer service environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of tasks while maintaining attention to detail and appropriately prioritizing responsibilities.
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with individuals at all levels of the firm.
Ability to understand, follow, and apply departmental policies and procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to analyze financial activity and investigate variances or unusual transactions.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work across teams and manage multiple deadlines.
A process-improvement mindset and interest in identifying efficiencies and automation opportunities.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of Aderant Expert financial software.
Experience with international transactions.
Experience with process improvement and automation, particularly identifying opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve existing workflows.

Responsibilities

Review supporting documentation for financial transactions to ensure proper approval, documentation, and posting in accordance with firm policies.
Complete assigned monthly close tasks on time and investigate variances as needed.
Prepare and reconcile monthly bank and general ledger accounts, investigate variances and reconciling items, and ensure they are resolved appropriately.
Participate in budgeting and reforecasting for accounts owned or maintained by the Accounting team.
Prepare financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting, including VAT filing support, statutory book trial balance preparation, and journal entries.
Assist with internal financial reporting, including financial statements, account activity, and monthly financial analyses as needed.
Support Treasury and Accounts Payable with banking transactions, including wires, ACH, SEPA, Bacs, and transfers across multiple banking platforms and currencies.
Assist with year-end schedules and analyses for external auditors and tax preparers for domestic and international entities.
Document current procedures and recommend improvements to internal controls and productivity.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and automate routine processes and tasks.
Provide backup support to other team members and develop working knowledge outside assigned areas of responsibility.
Communicate effectively across teams and meet established deadlines.
