About The Position

The Staff Accountant assists in all functions related to the financial operations of the assigned department and any related entities. This role is primarily responsible for monthly accounting transactions, monthly account reconciliations, the close process, and supporting schedules. The accountant will prepare journal entries, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP and healthcare-specific regulations. They will maintain subsidiary ledgers, such as fixed assets, and maintain accounting schedules for real estate and operating expense accounts. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will assist with the preparation of work papers for independent auditors and other functions related to financial reporting at the system level. This position supports Physician Practice Financial Managers (PPFM's) in analyzing accounts and responding to information requests from outside the department. The role requires maintaining working relationships with directors and other staff, interacting with a professional attitude, and demonstrating accuracy and timeliness. The Staff Accountant will also be assigned ad hoc projects in addition to normal monthly duties and attend meetings as required. The ideal candidate is initiative-taking, organized to meet all deadlines, able to work independently, and expected to improve processes continually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or similar plus 1 year experience is required or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft applications such as excel required. Including graphing and complex formulas often linking multiple worksheets (very high level of usage), general software literacy, trending, and "what if" skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience.
