About The Position

The Accountant Senior Lead will ensure compliance with Commonwealth accounting policies and procedures, assist in financial management by reviewing, reconciling, and reporting agency accounting transactions, and ensure compliance with all applicable Federal and State regulations, statutes, policies, and procedures. This role is responsible for maintaining a complete audit trail of all fiscal transactions in accordance with GAAP and the Department of Accounts Comptroller's Directives. The candidate must be proactive in ensuring a strong internal control environment, reducing or communicating potential risks to management, ensuring data and reports are accurate and reliable, safeguarding agency assets, maximizing operational efficiency and effectiveness, and consistently following applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of governmental and general accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of automated financial accounting systems, uniform administrative requirements, cost principles, and audit requirements for federal awards.
  • Ability to think and problem solve creatively.
  • Ability to effectively manage and complete assignments independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and financial management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated success working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and automated financial systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three years’ financial management experience.
  • Graduation from college or university with major studies in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience with Cardinal Financial Application is highly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may substitute for educational requirements.
