About The Position

This position offers the opportunity to prepare, submit, review, analyze, and report tax- and expense-related exhibits and schedules used in financial reporting, regulatory filings, budgeting, planning, and statutory reporting. The role also involves preparing and reviewing monthly reports and responding to inquiries from external sources. As a Senior Accountant, you will perform the Accountant responsibilities with more complex work and broader reporting support, including preparing exhibits and schedules for quarterly and annual subsidiary financial statement filings and tax reporting, supporting Company financial statements and analytics, responding to external agencies and auditors, and assisting with employee training. This position may offer flexibility through a telecommuting arrangement and can be performed from either the Greater Houston or Greater Binghamton area.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of experience in Accounting is required for the Accountant position. Internship experience may be considered.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Accounting is required for the Senior Accountant position.
Knowledge of GAAP accounting is required.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Strong analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to pay close attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and organize a heavy workload.
Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with accounting software (especially QuickBooks) is preferred.
Accountant (CPA) Certification is preferred for the Senior Accountant position.

Responsibilities

Prepare and submit various state income tax forms & filing forms for parent, subsidiary companies and nonprofit.
Prepare sales tax returns, premium and municipal taxes, state tax forms and various workpapers to support federal income taxes.
Prepare, analyze, and review financial statements expenses, taxes, licenses and fees for budgeting, forecasting, planning, and statutory reporting.
Act as Third Party Administrator to prepare monthly financial reports for MetLife.
Create, review and approve general ledger entries and reconcile various general ledger accounts.
Prepare and review bank reconciliations and assist in daily banking transactions.
Work with various departments on correcting accounting entries and accounting and internal audit training.
Research accounting variances; assist auditors with supporting documentation, correspond with advisors and custodian representatives.
Research accounting variances; assist management with supporting documentation and preparation for audits.
Handle more complex processing issues, provide processing support and assist with training (Senior Accountant).
Respond to inquiries and requests from tax agencies, auditors, regulatory agencies and other external sources (Senior Accountant).
Prepare various statutory exhibits under the review and supervision of Management (Senior Accountant).
Work with Management to create dashboards and analytics in Adaptive software (Senior Accountant).
