About The Position

We're seeking a detail oriented Accountant, Operations to support financial reporting, reconciliations, cash management, and expense administration. Strong preference will be given to candidates with Concur experience, including administration, auditing, and employee support. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on financial accuracy, controls, and operational efficiency. This role will work a hybrid schedule at our either our Columbus, Ohio or Charleston, WV location. We can hire at multiple seniority levels depending on candidate qualifications. The compensation range shown is inclusive of the Accountant, Operations and the Intermediate level roles. The role in this posting is for the Accountant, Operations.

Requirements

A four-year college degree with a major in accounting or finance is preferred.
Interest in progressing towards CPA is preferred, though not required.
Ability to learn and understand Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Statutory Accounting Principles.
Familiarity with various software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
Ability to use technical tools to perform analysis and create efficiencies in reporting.
Understand and access various data sources, using available reporting tools, to meet compliance, and accounting requirements and operational reporting needs.
Work well in a highly skilled team environment.
Learn new technology.
Good oral and written communication skills.
A profit-minded perspective are essential.

Responsibilities

Preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger entries.
Analyze and maintain accounting records.
Perform associated account reconciliations.
Research and resolve potential issues to ensure the accuracy of financial information.
Participate in projects as assigned to maintain key controls within the department.
Ensure proper recording and reporting based on statutory accounting principles.
Develop an understanding of compliance and statutory rules pertaining to the area and assist with research, analysis, and implementation of changes into the teams’ processes to ensure proper reporting.
Identify potential problems, inefficiencies or risk and work with higher-level staff to resolve them.
Daily analysis and journal entries relating to the operating cash accounts and generate appropriate reporting needed by management to ensure adequate cash flow.
Administration, Maintenance, review and audit of all employee expense reports and the core system.
Preparation of journal entries, payroll and fleet reporting, monthly account reconciliations, and reporting.
Understand rules, regulations, and procedures for systematically handling work.
Perform account reconciliations for assigned asset, liability, and expense accounts to ensure the accuracy of financial reports and to safeguard the assets of the Company.
Run and modify existing reports from financial reporting systems including the core insurance system, general ledger, business objects, and other online data access points.
Prepare and record journal entries and required supporting computations and assist other areas with this function.
Complete selected elements of the month-end close process.
Review and preparation of specific supplementary reporting.
Review, maintain and approve all vendor records in keeping with established procedures and controls.
Determine potential issues and exceptions relating to the cash process and reporting and working with other areas to resolve.
Assist with PBC items for the company’s annual audit.
Identify areas of inefficiency to streamline results.
Be part of specialized project teams to achieve accounting department’s goals.
Other duties as assigned.
