About The Position

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland. GRADE STD0016 Salary will be based on qualifications and Agency Budget allowance; State Salary guidelines may apply LOCATION OF POSITION Division of Rehabilitation Services Workforce and Technology Center 2301 Argonne Drive Baltimore, Maryland 21218 POSITION DUTIES This recruitment is limited to current permanent and contractual employees of the State of Maryland. The Accountant II will support the Supervisor of Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) Accounting and the Director of Accounting on daily financial tasks. This position manages journal entries, grant billing, undeliverable checks, and check reissues. The Accountant II will handle audit preparation and resolve vendor payment problems.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
  • Two years of experience examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.

Responsibilities

  • Process journal entries to balance current and prior year closed grants.
  • Ensure revenue draw-down requests from MSDE are properly allocated to all DORS grants.
  • Review open purchase orders and case service authorizations.
  • Process Notice of Grant Award (NOGA) payments.
  • Reviews sub-grant encumbrances, budget offsets, and expenditures.
  • Assists with year-end close out.
  • Performs reconciliations of fund accounts.
  • Participates in the audit process of agency fiscal operations.
  • Reviews and evaluates the undeliverable check report.
  • Review and monitor activity on the Financial Management Information System (FMIS 540).
