About The Position

This position will work onsite at our Houston, Texas, location. (East of the downtown area). POSITION SUMMARY The Accountant is accountable for providing accounting and financial reporting support to Accounting leadership. Major responsibilities include accounting, analysis, and report preparation for current construction projects that will assist management in directing and controlling Orion operations. In addition, this position is responsible for completing month-end close, quarterly SEC filings, account reconciliations, and adhoc projects. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Teamwork most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of Integrity.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Accounting is preferred with a minimum of 4 years of experience in all Accounting functions with emphasis in month-end and quarter-end close.
  • Incumbents must also be proficient in Microsoft Access, Excel and MS Dynamics experience or other similar database software.
  • Discretion and trustworthiness, and the ability to keep all Company information and materials strictly confidential (both internally and externally) are essential elements of this position.
  • Must be well organized, diligent, and be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision and to independently identify work to be done.
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to adjust to sudden changes in work priorities.
  • The incumbent must also have the ability to prioritize work generally and in order to accommodate those changes.
  • Attention to detail and extreme care in performing tasks accurately and carefully are also essential.
  • The incumbent must have the ability to quickly learn the accounting systems used by the organization; possess exceptional leadership qualities; possess the ability to evaluate and assess current Accounting system needs; develop recommendations to accommodate future corporate growth; be an effective communicator; and have the ability to interface well with employees at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to and complies with specific requests of Accounting leadership.
  • Works closely with the incumbent in this position to establish and achieve annual corporate goals for the Accounting Department.
  • Ensures that all lease transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with ASC 842 standards, providing detailed analysis and documentation for each lease agreement.
  • Ensures revenue recognition is recorded accurately and in compliance with ASC 606 standards, providing detailed analysis and documentation for each revenue transaction.
  • Supports preparation of the month-end and year-end closing processes ensuring that the process is completed accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Prepares monthly and year end journal entries and financial reports based on information finalized in month-end and year-end closing.
  • Performs general ledger analysis of accounts at period end.
  • Advises Accounting leadership on accounting issues that may arise and recommends viable and timely solutions.
  • Responds to requests to work on and complete adhoc projects.
  • Takes responsibility for the management and ownership of assigned account reconciliations.
  • Assists with audit requests and responses.
  • Ensures compliance with SOX controls during daily operations.
  • Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety.
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes in contact with.
  • Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed.
