About The Position

The Accountant II position involves preparing financial reports such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements. Responsibilities include analyzing trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to predict future financial outcomes. The role requires reporting financial information to management and offering suggestions on resource utilization. This position relies on established guidelines and instructions, with primary functions not typically requiring independent judgment. The Accountant II will collect data, analyze, and prepare monthly and annual GAAP financial statements for the credit union and its subsidiaries, both stand-alone and consolidated. They will also prepare other reports as needed by the board, management, or other departments. This role assists management in researching, interpreting, and recommending changes to accounting policies and procedures based on regulations from bodies like the NCUA, FASB, and AICPA. The Accountant II is expected to ensure all appropriate parties review and comment on final drafts before Controller approval. This role may lead departmental projects or act as a liaison for organizational projects, requiring significant interaction with internal and external team members and management to solve problems, with a focus on technical accounting. This includes process development and documentation of desktop procedures. Administrative duties for accounting systems and programs, such as wires, corporate credit card and reimbursement, bank accounts, and the Federal Reserve, are also part of the role. The Accountant II will identify, process, record to the general ledger, and apply appropriate accounting treatment to transactions related to the Credit Union’s subsidiaries and CUSOs. This involves heavy interaction with operational team members of each subsidiary to identify transactions with financial impact and draft accounting policies and procedures, subject to management review. The role includes interacting with external and regulatory auditors, gathering and compiling necessary information on behalf of the organization. Responsibilities also include maintaining, analyzing, and reconciling complex accounting transactions such as deferred loan origination fees and costs, participation loan programs, deferred rent, mortgage servicing rights, and derivatives. The Accountant II will prepare all city, county, state, and federal tax returns, including property tax, sales tax, and 1099 forms. They will maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including modifying, adding, or deleting general ledger numbers and maintaining a history of these accounts. Additionally, the role involves preparing quarterly NCUA call reports (5300) and other routine external financial reporting like the weekly Federal Reserve Board Regulation D, Reserve Requirements of Depository Institutions, Form 2900, and the FAST and Raddon reports.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience required
  • 3-5 years of prior relevant experience required

Responsibilities

  • Prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
  • Analyzes trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.
  • Reports organization's finances to management, and offers suggestions about resource utilization.
  • Collects data, analyzes and prepares annual and monthly GAAP financial statements for the credit union and/or its subsidiaries, on both a stand-alone and consolidated basis.
  • Collects data, analyzes and prepares other reports on a monthly or ad hoc basis as required by the board, management or other departments within the organization.
  • Assists management in researching, interpreting and recommending changes to accounting policies and procedures based on regulations and pronouncements issued by outside bodies including the National Credit Union Administration, Financial Accounting Standards Board, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, etc.
  • Ensures all appropriate parties review and comments are included in the final draft prior to the approval of the Controller.
  • Leads departmental projects or acts as liaison for organizational projects, which includes heavy interaction with other teammembers and management both internal and external to the department to solve problems, with an emphasis in technical accounting.
  • Includes process development and documentation of desktop procedures.
  • Performs administrative duties for systems/programs used in accounting areas including but not limited to wires, corporate credit card and reimbursement, bank accounts and the Federal Reserve.
  • Identifies, processes, records to the general ledger, and applies appropriate accounting treatment to, transactions related to the Credit Union’s subsidiaries, CUSOs, etc., when applicable.
  • Interacts with external auditors, including regulatory auditors.
  • Gathers and/or compiles all necessary information for the external auditors on behalf of the organization.
  • Maintains, analyzes and reconciles deferred loan origination fees and costs, participation loan program, deferred rent, mortgage servicing rights, derivatives and other accounting transactions that have been determined to be of a more complex nature, as assigned.
  • Prepares all city, county, state and federal tax returns, including but not limited to property tax, sales tax, and 1099 forms.
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts of the credit union including modifying, adding, or deleting general ledger numbers and maintaining a history of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepares the quarterly NCUA call reports (5300) and other routine external financial reporting such as the weekly Federal Reserve Board Regulation D, Reserve Requirements of Depository Institutions, Form 2900, the FAST and Raddon reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with regulatory compliance and assigned training requirements including but not limited to BSA regulations corresponding to their specific job duties.
