About The Position

The City of Virginia Beach Finance Department is seeking an Accountant II to support its financial and business services and help protect City resources. The position prepares Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) reimbursement packages in coordination with project managers, ensuring project expenditures are within the scope of VDOT programs. It also manages and records VDOT revenues in the general ledger, ensures revenue accruals are recorded, and tracks project revenues against program agreements. Other duties may be assigned. The position is scheduled for 40 hours per week and offers a remote/hybrid work arrangement. The role may require work beyond normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs or City-wide emergencies.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and three years of experience using the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with Accountant positions; or an equivalent combination of education above high school and/or experience equivalent to seven years in relevant fields.
Experience and skills involving accruals, expenses, financial data, financial documents, financial information, financial reports, financial statements, general ledger, research, revenue, summarization, trend analysis, and working papers.
May be expected to work beyond normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs or City-wide emergencies.

Nice To Haves

Experience in accounting with a state or local government.
Experience with construction contracts.
A master’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
