About The Position

The Accountant I position supports the financial operations of the agency by performing routine accounting tasks, assisting with payroll processing, maintaining financial records, and supporting month-end and year-end closing activities. This entry-level professional role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in financial transactions while gaining exposure to nonprofit and healthcare accounting functions within the organization. The Accountant I works under the supervision of senior accounting staff and contributes to maintaining accurate general ledger records, payroll processing, grant tracking, and audit preparation activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • 0–2 years of accounting or finance experience required (internship experience acceptable).
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency in spreadsheets and accounting software.
  • Ability to learn and apply accounting systems and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced office setting.
  • Willingness to develop skills in nonprofit and healthcare accounting practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Nonprofit, healthcare, or grant-funded organization experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and GAAP preferred.
  • Familiarity with payroll and accounting systems (e.g., SAGE, ADP, QuickBooks, or similar) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with day-to-day accounting operations, including data entry, account reconciliation, and financial record maintenance.
  • Supports monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and accruals.
  • Assists with payroll processing, payroll updates, and related reporting functions.
  • Maintains accurate financial documentation and supports general ledger integrity.
  • Assists with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipt processing.
  • Supports grant tracking and restricted fund monitoring.
  • Helps prepare financial reports and documentation for internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Assists with audit preparation and compliance documentation.
  • Ensures accurate filing and maintenance of financial records, payroll records, and supporting schedules.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
