About The Position

This position is responsible for reconciling UF Research operating projects for the Assistant Director of Accounting’s review and initiating necessary corrections. The Accountant manages cash-based projects for UF Research, tracking multi-year projects for the full commitment lifecycle, including project creation, funding transfers, extensions, expense reviews, and closures. The role also generates expired project listings monthly and provides back-up support for shared inboxes daily. The Accountant reviews financial charges based on UF fiscal policy, confirms proper documentation, and approves them in the PeopleSoft system, ensuring purchases comply with UF Procurement Directives and Procedures and equipment is recorded in myAssets. Additionally, the Accountant provides financial reports for UF Research operating cost centers and assists with special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Accountant I: A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
  • Accountant II: A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience.

  • Understanding of UF’s purchasing, disbursement, and travel directives; internal controls at UF; and the F&A Cost Return & Use Policy.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles UF Research operating projects for the Assistant Director of Accounting’s review and initiates necessary corrections.
  • Manages cash-based projects for UF Research.
  • Tracks multi-year projects for the full commitment lifecycle, including project creation, funding transfers, extensions, expense reviews, and closures.
  • Generates expired project listings monthly.
  • Provides back-up support for the IDC and VPDSR shared inboxes daily.
  • Reviews financial charges based on UF fiscal policy, confirms proper documentation, and approves them in the PeopleSoft system.
  • Ensures purchases are made in accordance with UF Procurement Directives and Procedures, and equipment is recorded in myAssets.
  • Provides financial reports for UF Research operating cost centers to directors periodically or upon request.
  • Assists the Finance Director and the Assistant Director of Accounting with special projects as assigned.
  • Reviews Fund 211 expenses throughout the year in accordance with UF fiscal policies.
  • Manages UF Research cash-based projects, opening and closing them in a timely manner to make funds available to support research at UF, and updates the projects as needed.
  • Reconciles UF Research’s various projects and assists the office with ad hoc projects as needed and other duties as assigned.
  • Processes financial transactions for UF Research throughout the year in accordance with the UF fiscal policy.
  • Reconciles UF Research’s various projects in a timely and independent manner and suggests corrections of reconciling items.
  • Reviews the appropriateness of transactions in accordance with the commitment purposes, and recommends next steps.
