About The Position

Dream's Development Accounting team is currently looking for an Accountant to take charge of the full accounting cycle and ad hoc projects for several of their diverse and exciting development projects and investment properties. This is a 12-month contract position. The role involves taking on responsibilities, building on existing skill sets, and helping the team achieve its goals in a fast-paced, dynamic, and enjoyable work environment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience; real estate industry experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Completed or in-progress CPA designation.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with JD Edwards an asset.
  • A self-starter. Ability to anticipate needs, take initiative, plan ahead, commit and deliver within the set time frames. Ambition to learn and grow professionally.
  • Strong skills in task-prioritization and multitasking. Being able to switch gears among various ongoing tasks, while understanding the priorities.
  • Strong people skills. A team player with a proven ability to build relationships at all levels of an organization as well as with external parties such as vendors, auditors, and business partners.
  • Strong communication skills. Demonstrated in written and verbal reports and meeting participation.

Nice To Haves

  • Real estate industry experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Experience with JD Edwards an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process capital calls, assist in cash flow analysis, record and reconcile project capital to ensure sufficient project liquidity, and prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reporting packages to senior management and external business partners in accordance with IFRS and ASPE (training will be provided).
  • Perform monthly calculations, reconciliations and recording of revenues, various fees, interest and commissions for each project.
  • Assist in the year-end audit process for various projects.
  • Record journal entries, maintain and reconcile general ledger, job cost and other JDE reports.
  • Prepare monthly construction draw packages and assess costs incurred to budget.
  • Maintain a working paper file for each project including support for GL balances and actual vs. budget analysis (training will be provided).
  • Perform timely month-end close and ensure all pertinent transactions, including setting up monthly accruals, are recorded.
  • Comply with internal controls at all times (training will be provided).
  • Assist in compliance reporting to lenders, government, partners (training will be provided).
  • Support team members and other departments as required.
