About The Position

The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Accountant Advanced within the Administrative and Fiscal Unit of the Office of Finance and Administration. This individual will process accounts payable and travel vouchers for various offices within the agency, perform complex accounting and auditing work, as well as prepare, examine, reconcile, and analyze complex statements and reports. This individual will maintain official accounting records for the grant accounts and prepare grant agreement obligations. This position is responsible for effectively communicating with assigned offices and Divisions as well as auditing travel vouchers for accuracy and completeness to verify that they are in accordance with the Governor’s Travel Control Board’s regulations. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, with courses in business administration and accounting.
  • Requires two (2) years of professional experience in accounting, external auditing, budgetary planning and control or public accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Under direction, independently performs complex accounting and auditing work for the Agency.
  • Performs purchasing functions for assigned accounts which includes communications with assigned Offices and Divisions, locating and contracting vendors to adhere to the small business, minority business and veteran business procurement programs.
  • Prepares, examines, reconciles and analyzes complex statements and financial reports for office use.
  • Prepares periodic financial projections to control spending of state and federal allotments.
  • Assists in preparation of the Bureau of Finance’s annual budget by preparing budgetary projections based on current expenditures in assigned areas.
  • Audits travel vouchers for accuracy and completeness and verifies that they are in accordance with Travel Guide for State Employee’s maintained by the Governor’s Travel Control Board.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
