About The Position

As an Accountant 1 with the Department of Revenue, you will play a key role in reviewing financial data that supports statewide reporting. This position is responsible for auditing statutory compliance for a variety of restricted credit programs and participating in the preparation of various financial reports for submission to the legislature, other agencies or for access by the general public. Requirements

  • One year as a Fiscal Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration), and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • Successful completion of the Commonwealth's Accounting Intern Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as a Financial Programs Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of Bookkeeping experience and fifteen college credits in accounting; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree including or supplemented by fifteen credits in accounting.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credit.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
  • Submit to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and evaluate financial transactions posted to corporate ledger accounts
  • Analyze work lists and data edit failures to ensure alignment with programming requirements
  • Audit accounting methods and procedures to confirm accuracy and compliance
  • Prepare and maintain written narratives of division operating procedures
  • Assess accounting systems and databases to verify correct programming of interest, fees and refunds
  • Analyze restricted credit transactions and confirm accurate posting through internal databases
