About The Position

Western Illinois Correctional Center is looking for an energetic candidate to serve as an Account Technician I in the facility Business Office. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, task oriented, and has excellent organizational skills. This position will prepare and audit a variety of complex financial documents and maintain the facility's employee time and attendance records. In addition, they will provide assistance to both the facility cashier and other Business Office accounting staff, and perform internal audits when assigned. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course or three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirement for this class.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience evaluating accounting problems such as rectifying discrepancies between financial system reports and developing a plan to resolve.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of timekeeping and/or payroll processing experience.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and/or similar type of computer programs.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience managing multiple projects with strict deadlines in a busy office for a large organization (100 or more employees) and/or similar type of work environment.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of record retention experience.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of accounting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains facility's employee time and attendance records.
  • Prepares and audits a variety of complex financial documents, including vouchers and invoices against receiving reports in Systems Applications Products (SAP).
  • Provides assistance to the facility cashier by receiving and receipting incoming monies for all funds.
  • Provides assistance to other Business Office accounting staff in the performance of duties.
  • Performs internal audits when assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
