About The Position

As a member of our Mailroom team, you will be responsible for accurately sorting and distributing mail for our staff in various departments, as well as for our individual in custody population. You will scan for possible contraband and alert appropriate staff of any concerns you may have, helping to keep our facility safe and secure. You will also process all of our outgoing mail, preparing items with the correct postage and weighing packages for accurate postage amounts. Our facility supports electronic messaging for our individuals in custody as well, so your services will be needed to help monitor these messages for safety and security issues. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two (2) years of office experience.
  • Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 45 wpm.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medicdal standards as set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

  • Processes and inspects all individuals in custody incoming mail.
  • Processes all outgoing individuals in custody and staff mail according to the U.S. Postal Service Regulations.
  • Distributes mail of individuals in custody who have been discharged, paroled, or transferred.
  • Keyboards memos and correspondence pertaining to mail processes and procedures.
  • Monitors incoming and outgoing electronic messages (Global Tel-Link system - GTL) involving individuals in custody.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
