Requirements

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility or related field.
Requires the ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Requires possession of a Firearm Ownership Identification Card.
Requires the ability to qualify with firearms within twelve months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws
Requires the ability to be on-call.
Requires the use of agency-supplied technology.
Requires the ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest.
Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position.
Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and or other medical standards set out by the employer.

Responsibilities

Formulates and implements rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures governing employees and individuals in custody.
Directs and evaluates program responsibility.
Plans and directs facility budget.
Consults with court officials, law enforcement personnel, and other agencies regarding the care and custody of individuals in custody.
Serves as a full-line supervisor.
Completes inspections of overall physical plant, equipment, and grounds for safety, security, sanitation, efficiency, maintenance, and to ensure operational effectiveness of facility.
Travels to speak before civic groups and organizations to discuss programs of the facility and the Department of Corrections.
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
