About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a highly motivated Account Technician I. This position will prepare institutional payroll, prepare information for attendance reports, receive and process documents and assist in preparing annual budgetary needs and staffing plans for personal services. In addition, this position will serve as backup for Trust Fund Operations. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, task orientated, organized, and possess a high level of attention to detail. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course OR three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience in general ledger accounting practices.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience inputting and posting information to computerized accounting systems.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience identifying errors and discrepancies in an accounting system.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience with office methods and procedures.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience creating and maintaining reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares institutional payroll.
  • Prepares information for attendance reports periodically throughout the month.
  • Receives and processes documents from other sources having an effect on payroll processing (Personnel Transaction Forms, Group Insurance Forms, Deferred Compensation Forms).
  • Gathers and provides information, data, and records used to assist in preparation of the institution's annual budgetary needs and staffing plans for personal services.
  • Serves as backup for Trust Fund Operations.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
