About The Position

The Small Business National Accounts (SBNA) team, part of EDC’s Inbound Sales and Service group, empowers Canadian micro and small businesses nationwide. Through a collaborative, skills-based approach, our Account Managers, Customer Care, and Exporter Engagement teams deliver exceptional client experiences through personalized navigational guidance and tailored export solutions. SBNA manages relationships with small business exporters and their financial institution partners, facilitating access to EDC’s financial and knowledge solutions. Operating as a virtual business development team, we collaborate across EDC and with Canadian financial institutions to drive client retention, satisfaction, and new business growth. With a focus on operational excellence, inclusive trade, and scalable support, SBNA continually refines its approach to meet the evolving needs of Canadian exporters and of EDC’s customer strategy. The SBNA team is looking for a self-motivated, organized, service-oriented Portfolio Account Manager for our Small Business Account Management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing, maintaining and growing a large portfolio of Canadian customers and prospects in the small business segment while closely collaborating with key financial institution partners. The Account Manager will achieve this by qualifying prospects as potential EDC clients, maximizing retention of current customers through cross-selling and customer engagement strategies, and closely collaborating with other business development and underwriting teams to provide predictable product solutions and service delivery to our clients. In addition, you will raise awareness of EDC’s working capital solutions through regular contacts with financial institutions and other financial intermediaries in the market.

Requirements

  • Bilingualism – strong proficiency to communicate in both French & English
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Commerce, or other relevant disciplines
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in business development, commercial lending, international business, financial services, or risk analysis / underwriting
  • Knowledge of best practices in strategic sales and/or account management
  • Able to work legally in Canada at the time of application (Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents)
  • Meet the requisite government security screening requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Business development experience in commercial banking
  • Experience with credit analysis and bank lending practices
  • Knowledge of international business practices and international trade
  • Good knowledge of EDC’s financial solutions
  • MBA or CITP (Certified International Trade Professional) designation

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 150 – 200 small business clients.
  • Respond to client inquiries while identifying cross-selling opportunities across EDC’s suite of risk management and working capital solutions to support clients’ export growth.
  • Qualify inbound inquiries from small business prospects and financial partners to identify new potential business development opportunities, assess working capital challenges and risk management needs, and position value-added solutions.
  • Act as a trusted resource and problem solver for prospects and clients, managing internal and external interactions professionally and working toward positive outcomes for clients and partners.
  • Build, monitor and advance an individual sales pipeline to achieve personal KPIs and contribute to team targets.
  • Plan and manage time effectively while balancing competing demands across a large portfolio of customers.
  • Collaborate closely with external partners and internal risk teams to navigate customer transactions through EDC’s underwriting processes.
  • Contribute to team success by executing projects, initiatives, and tasks beyond portfolio management responsibilities.
  • Identify and share trends, market intelligence, and examples of EDC’s customer impact through ongoing interactions with clients, partners, and prospects.
  • Demonstrate a positive, team-oriented mindset aligned the team's mandate to help Canadian small businesses grow and succeed internationally.
